Hermes has vicuña too

But I believe Loro has exclusive rights to vicuña and the other companies get it through them (other companies also use Loro fabric.
Yea, I know Hermes does.... but I'm not going to buy it from them.
HOnestly the only things I like from Hermes are their SAD and Birkin.

I wanna get a couple of Birkins and build a closet for my future wife, so when enters my life, it's there for her.

JOhnston Elgin right?

I'm looking at their vicuna scarves, since the color is basically the same natural color like LP's , I don't think I see a difference in aesthetic? And the only difference I see is price.... Elgin's is $2570 vs LP $5050

So this means LP charges more because of their Brand Name?
I mean their knitwear! Scarves are basically all the same 🤣

LP has crazy costs related to marketing, very very very expensive boutiques worldwide, etc…

Elgin barely has any stores since their core business is the production of garments for other brands (Chanel, H, Burberry and many others) so operating costs are a lot lower.

GOTCHA!!

So basically there's no need for me to spend $5k for a vicuna scarf from LP , when I can just buy the exact same for $2.5k from Elgin??

I didn't know that they are the garment maker for all these brands. So these brands just buy from Elgin and slap their brand name and charge extra eh....

I mean that’s how most of fashion has been operating for a very long time. (Houses contract out production to specialist brands for each category) There’s honestly very few brands that are fully vertically integrated.

There’s also not a big difference between vicuña and ultra fine wool… Vicuña is loved because it is super fine (around 12 microns) but there’s been a crazy race for the finest wool between several manufacturers (such as LP and Zegna) who have have attained levels that surpass even Vicuña (10 microns at LP) and equalling it (with 12 microns at Zegna).

I never really cared about clothing brand and just buy what's comfy and pleasing to my eyes.
It's only this year that I want to have higher end pieces that doesn't scream their brands.

So I'm very very new to this.

So summerize evertyhing I've learned so far:

1. Get Vicuna scarves from Elgin since they are the same style and quality as LP. (Or is LP really the best at making Vicuna scarf?)

2. Buy RTW polos, shirts and coats from LP (20-70%) and BC (30%)outlets

3. Forget Hermes unless I just want their leather bags which for a non Birkin I can just buy from the secondary market for much lower.

Correct?

Christofle knows a lot about rtw sizinf; quality; fabric and manufacture; as well as leather quality and make of bespoke accessories snd shoes. So he is able to buy what he wants on line and know exactly what he is getting…

But, for most of us, I’d exercise caution and only buy what you love and what fits perfectly — when you see it in person. Only you will be able to decide whether vicuña or ultra fine wool makes a difference when you see and feel it.

For me personally, if I was looking to upgrade a capsule wardrobe on any kind of budget, I’m not sure that I would even allot that much of my budget to the price of Elgin vicuña scarf. Esp. If that could buy a substantial part of a jacket or coat. JMO of course, and only you will know the answer.

DH likes both Hermes and LP knitwear, but generally wears more Hermes. The styling works for him. His LP SA was formerly his BC SA. She readily admits that she would contact him more if she thought LP styles would work for him, but she believes he does best with select LP styles around the edges of a collection. The LP MtM wool jersey pants are secretly stretchy but still function like trousers; so, they happen to be perfect for travel.

I’d look around and try quite a bit before buying… that’s the advice I would give to anyone starting in premier rtw today. The price points are too high to leap in without really knowing your taste and needs.

ETA: I’d also say that it pays to figure out if your style and fit is more French/hermes/charvet; Italian /BC/LP; or Elgin/turnbull etc. The brands all have a different cut and way of doing things….

Thanks, I have made appointments at the LP and BC boutiques to try some things out.
I already have SA s assigned to me at their outlets.

I just feel bad for the staff if I try a lot of stuff and end up not buying anything.

Seriously, that is part of their job, and so long as you try on in good faith and buy only what you love, and are nice about it, that is the best scenario anyone can hope for

What no one wants is for anyone to buy stuff that they don’t love and either will return or not come back

Have fun; take pics if you are so inclined to share

This. x1000. We need to put this on a stick note on RTW threads lol. I agree with this 1000% and think it is one of the most important things to consider when curating your wardrobe.

Some times I wish these SAs aren't nice to me so I don't feel bad at all when I don't buy anything.
(half the time they aren't lol)

When ppl are genuinely nice, it makes me want to support them even if just with a little sale so I buy something small to gift a friend.
