how hard/easy is barenia leather to maintain?

Etriers says it perfectly! The beauty of this skin is that it ages so elegantly - like a gorgeous person who conspicuously refuses to get Botox or fillers in middle age. My barenia B is 18 years old & to me, the leather just gets more interesting & alluring the more time & wear it accumulates…

Isn't that just the perfect Birkin.

In answer to the thread question:
easy - certainly not hard; it looks after itself

I love barenia. Love. I do have a barenia wallet and it scartaches very easily and will take time to develop the full patina. I think it is gorgeous and the in between stage doesn’t bother me. To get it in a bag you’d have to be sure you would need to be comfortable with the bag while it develops that patina or have other bags to use that don’t scratch easily. If I was offered one I’d take it in a heartbeat.

I love Barenia. But I grew up riding horses and loving the smell of saddle leather. I prefer the smooth barenia but also have a HAC a dos in Faubourg Barenia. I have 2 smooth barenia bags: an evelyne and a B30. But I think barenia suits me because of my youth at the stables and because I’m 74……so a few wrinkles, on me or my bag, doesn’t faze me. However, what marks I get do seem to fade into the leather over time, unlike those on my face.

I just got one too. How has yours held up? Any wear and tear? How are the scratches and have your handles darkened?
Just saw your question: My pico 18 (a few years old, need to check how old…) holds up just fine, not a lot of darkening on the handles. I tend to wear it on my underarms though, rather than using it handheld. Feels more comfortable. Leather has softened a bit, a few scratches. Feels overall like a beautiful used piece of leather with a nice weight and suppleness to it, nice sheen. I try to post a picture later…

A couple of days ago I went to my local H to drop off two bags for spa, my Box 32 HAC and my Bolide in Peau Porc. I carried my Barenia HAC 32. As I waited for my SA another SA, whom I've know for almost 20 years , stopped to say hello and asked me what I was dropping off, I told him and seeing my Barenia HAC he said "you have the best bags!" Afterwards, when my SA was taking down the specs of my bags some younger SAs came by and she stopped them saying "I bet you've never seen these leathers" and she gave them a "lesson" on these heritage leathers.

Anyway, when I got home I decide my B HAC (from 2003, bought pre-owned about 10 years ago) hadn't had some moisturizer for some time so I treated her with my saddle balm.....and here she is! She's darkened with time and treatments, she's also super soft... I love her to bits, if I were to keep just 1 of my H bags she would be the one!
