Later this year, I'll be in Kyoto and Tokyo for about a week. I like to gather as much information as possible from different platforms/communities well before the trip so this won't be the only place you might see me around with my question 😁 I am completely new to the brand--zero pre-spend, zero purchase history, zero footprint in any store database. From what I understand, non-QBs in the Japan stores seem to be "first come, first served" to everybody including tourists/walk-ins. While the scarves/twillies/fashion jewelry are lovely, I prefer to keep a firm budget on my travel expenses, and won't be distracted from my ultimate goal: a 1923 Bolide in 25cm or Mini in a bright color (NO neutrals.)

Given these conditions, would you recommend bypassing boutiques altogether for 2nd-hand/resale, or is visiting the boutiques even worth a shot? Appreciate any advice/tips!

As a frequent buyer in Hermes stores in Tokyo, Bolides are very popular (close or equal to Constances imo), especially the smaller ones. Even if you are not going for neutral colors, I would say it will be really hard to get a SA to bring out one without any prespend. If you have the time you can go ask in stores, but I would go secondhand. Small Bolides ask for premium prices, but you might score a better price since you want a colorful one. Good Luck!!

I was in Tokyo end of July for a quick business trip. Went to Ginza and Nihombashi Takashimaya stores. Was shown a few men's bags in Ginza on the ipad/tablet, it was there late in the day. Didn't end up buying any. At the Nihombashi Takashimaya store, was offered a Mini Evelyn in beton and told it was the only bag for sale left. Again late in the day after work. Both times, I walked in and asked without purchasing anything prior and have no history with the stores. Service was excellent and I felt it was a pleasant experience all around for both stores.
