Hi all,
I’ve cross posted this on a different thread, but hope to get a response here.

I recently purchased this vintage Kelly (shes 52 years young 🙃) in box leather. The seller didn’t disclose that it may have been touched up, but discovered these strange wide brush like streaks all throughout, upon closer inspection. Any ideas what it could be? It looks terribly haphazard for a paint job, could it be a cleaning job gone wrong where it destroyed the top coat? 🤔

Has anyone seen anything similar? Would Hermes spa take this on? Suppose I’m looking for options on how to make her shine again, it’s a beautiful vintage piece I’d love to preserve. Thanks in advance for your suggestions and help. Pics to follow.
To me the streaks look like water damage. Are the white streaks possibly mold? Does the bag smell musty/mildewy?

Thank you!!!!

There is an in-house artisan (2 actually) at BH. TBH I found the after-sales team (non-hands-on folks) at BH to be difficult but the artisans themselves were amazing. When I was working with BH on the regular, both craftspeople were women.

It's been almost 3 years since I took a bag there, though, so perhaps someone can speak to more recent experiences.
This what I remember from years ago. I was so pleased to see a woman but I will say
I do miss Claude very very much.. He was so special & just loved a challenge..

Yes I'm learning they take months to return your bag but are they actually working on your bag the entire time for months or is it just sitting there waiting for it's turn, basically waiting in line? It will take about 2 weeks just for me to receive my bag back although they did nothing to it. Perhaps they let it sit there and wait to ship other items with it back to the boutique to save on shipping cost. I was told the spa that my bag was being shipped to was in the US but details were not given other then that. Yes metal cars and leather are totally different for sure. My car took over 1 month to get back as it needed body work and paint. due to dent to my side panel and another month for it to cure. Anyway not to get off topic. Hahaha! Well it is what it is at this point. I just expected more from them, that's all. l will survive. Lol. . Now I know they are not miracle workers. Lol
I dropped off 2 bags last week at my local H (Europe) just for cleaning/moisturizing, I only got a piece of paper saying I had left 2 bags, it didn't say what bags or any other details: the estimated date of return was 30th April 2025  In my experience spa always took 2/3 months not more.....but whatever, I'm not in a hurry!

Regarding your question, no they don't take months working on your specific bag, they have many bags to work on so yours may sit there for a long time before they start working on it.

Yes makes sense that it wouldn't take months for a spa but so sorry your bags won't get back to you for 7 months. Wow. Well it should feel like you got 2 new bags having to wait that long! Anticipation can be exciting at times!

Hi everyone. I have a Toolbox in Swift that got a mysterious discoloration/ stain located near the opening. I have no idea how it got there and do not recall it being there when I stored it away in its dustbag. I took the bag to Hermès and the SA there sent it to the Spa thinking they will be able to fix/cover that spot. I was pretty confident it would come back looking restored however when I was contacted by email, I was told they would apply "makeup" to the area (along with cleaning the entire bag and hardware, minus the interior) however they said there is no guarantee it would be covered and that they would do their best. With a few more interactions trying to get info on the process details the SA told me to know for sure, I'll have to give the go to move forward and then the Artisan would be able to work on it and then I would find out. So in other words, if they are not able to cover the stain, I still pay for their attempt. Has any one been told this before. Do they not have my exact paint color to be able to spray over the spot? With further back and forth email correspondence with the SA (I felt I was trying to squeeze water out of a dry sponge) , even asking her to advocate for me by asking the Artisan, I finally got a response that was 2 fold....that there is no guarantee it would be covered and also the stain will remain. Both statements were in the same email. With that said, I declined and requested my bag to be returned as I did not send my bag to be cleaned, but to get the stain covered. It would be a huge disappointment and imo, a waste of money, to have my bag returned looking pretty much the same, as it is in very good condition to begin with, even the hardware having no visible scratches. Can anyone explain what is involved with the Hermès Spa as far as covering stains/discoloration? Is it paint, dye or polush that they use? I have a pic below of the discoloration. I'm surprised they were not confident to say they would be able to cover it as its not all that bad. I've seen Birkin bags corners get totally covered and looked perfect afterwards. Why not mine?
It looks like a food stain, possibly oily. If you went to a restaurant and someone splashed food it happens in an instant. They will be able to remove the oil, but it also looks like curry or something that permanently stains like turmeric and another brown substance.
The SA wouldn't be able to give an opinion on this, it's a matter for their experts. It may depend on how long the stain has been allowed to 'set' into the leather. There should be no issue with mixing the paint once cleaning has been done. Good luck with it, that's a great colour!

My Jypsière needs some re-inking in places and I intend taking it to New Bond Street, London as soon as I can. Does anyone know if this can be sorted there or will it have to go to Paris? Also how long is it likely to take plus approximate cost? Many thanks.

As @WhiteBus mentioned, sadly your expectations were simply unrealistic, Hermes spa can only do what they can do, there are no miracles.

Just rain water doesn't usually affect shoes too badly, but if shoes get saturated with dirty water, grass stains and/or mud, it's virtually impossible. Leather comes pre-dyed to the factories, the craftspeople don't have 'paint'. All shoes, of any colour get dirty, at least eventually. My only white shoes are also patterned (and made of stamped leather). I would enjoy your shoes as they are.

@luckyadanosii, if you click above @papertiger was responding to a member who submitted her shoes to spa.

As I read the posts above, I was reflecting generally on the ability and limitations of aftercare. . .I use both Hermes and professional third party, @docride * etc., for my bags. Once,I submitted two kelly bags to H spa, waited many months, and went to pick them up only to find spa forgot to do service on one of them. (So, always check your bag before you leave the premises). I’ve also submitted for H SPa, and not seen any discernible difference upon return. I still had to wait and pay of course. However, any aftercare service is not cheap, esp. if you factor in the cost of shipping fed ex insured, which I do for professional third party, , but IMO that’s the cost of upkeep.

*for cleaning interiors or darkened handles or other things H Spa usually will not do.

ETA : the important thing to remember is that leather, unlike synthetic, is a natural hide and to keep one’s expectations very realistic. There is a limit to what spa services can do.

In July of this year I had to send my newly purchased Kelly danse to the spa in pairs because I got pen ink on it………….. sigh……… but it’s September and I looked at the tracker and it still shows that it’s at the initial phase! Should I asked my SA what’s going on or wait? The estimate to finish is January 2025

Hello everyone, I need advices! I'm thinking to get a preowned kelly box around 90s, noticed that there are some dried crack leather part, do you know if these could be fix by Hermes to look like 90% new again?
