ILD 4th of July sale, code FIREWORKS, 35% off on top of sale prices,
selected items. Lots of Florentine, Alto, and many others.

I caved and bought the Plumes Drawstring in blue
and the Alto Woven Shopper in Saddle.

Anyone else shopping?

I bought the Alto Large Woven Shopper in saddle last month and just received my blue Plumes drawstring Thursday! I LOVE the shopper! I always buy the large in Alto because the prices are large and the bags are small. I was pleasantly surprised how big the large was this time. The regular/medium size probably would have fit me better but I wanted four woven rows and one large open space inside. Big bags do not scare me. I much prefer to have too much room inside than not enough. As always, the craftsmanship and leather were exceptional.

The Plumes design grew on me and I wanted to have one piece in my collection. I liked the barrel size, but Dooney only had it in brown at the time and no discount. I love Dooney’s drawstrings so this was my second choice and with the great price on I Love Dooney, I took the plunge. It is gorgeous in person and I cannot wait to wear it. I believe this could be worn in all seasons and is really a statement piece especially if worn with a solid color outfit.

I hope you love your new pieces! :flowers:

LID: I read your post and had to check to see if I wrote it! 😁 My thoughts exactly, even
tho I haven't gotten my new Alto Woven Shopper or Blue Plumes Drawstring yet!
I'm really excited that you love your new handbags. Now I no longer feel any guilt
for buying more handbags when I promised myself no more! 😮😮😮

I fell in love with the Plumes print when they released it and was waiting for a decent sale and also a style that worked for me. Would have been happier with a large domed satchel,
but there wasn't one. I like the D/S style and I think the blue is the prettiest color
(at least from the photos). The black would have worked for me too, but I have
another black background Dooney D/S in one of the floral prints. And a black background Tartan Charleston tote. Come to think of it I have a blue Hydrangea zip zip from years ago.... so the Plumes D/S is the best new addition to my Dooney print collection.

I don't collect a lot of prints, I much prefer
solids and all leather handbags. But, as a collector, I enjoy owning and
wearing some of the Dooney prints, on occasion, as accents to solid outfits.
Prints are never neutrals in my wardrobe.... and that includes logo prints too.

As for the Alto.... ah, Alto. I almost bought the large Woven shopper, but I really
want to use it as a handbag. And I have other large Alto totes (also in saddle) that
are a little larger than I would like.... for handbag use. Space is great, but
the larger the bag, the heavier it is. And dragging around all my stuff makes
any handbag heavy. Sometimes I think if the stuff is spread out over a larger
handbag it almost feels lighter.... like a pound of feathers vs a pound of bricks
(which concentrate the weight into a smaller space). Maybe I should have bought
the large Shopper?????

I hope I'm 'satisfied' with 1 Alto Woven Shopper..... I have no room in my
handbag collection (physical space) to add more. And a black Alto is always
tempting. I'm going to wait and see how the size and style of the saddle
Woven Shopper (mid size) works for me. And try to convince myself I don't
need to add the black one in any size to my collection. I'll probably begin
trolling for a good price.... just in case. 🙄

So this morning I started looking at the prices of the medium/regular size Alto Shopper…in black! I only have one black leather bag from Coach and one black nylon crossbody from Dooney. Why buy a black bag when there are so many amazing colors to choose from? I have sold all my gray bags and kept one for the very same reason. I love that even though the shopper is large, the alto leather is magic and weighs next to nothing. I think the woven texture makes this bag interesting even though it is black. If I can get it for 50% off (or more) I will pounce!

50% off is the magic number for me for Alto also. I think that's what the medium woven
Shopper ended up costing. It had the best price/discount of all 3 sizes yesterday
Sale code on ILD is FIREWORKS

You are right! The black woven Alto leather shopper is ordered. I was still debating the color but figured I can always return it if the black does not make me swoon. Now if this came in navy I would have had absolutely no hesitation.

And so our collections grow. I hope my saddle Alto Woven Shopper arrives quickly.
I'm already thinking about the black. But I really need to see the handbag first
to know if the size and style require me to purchase another one. 😁
With a little bit of luck I will get to make that decision before the price goes up.

My Alto Woven Shopper (medium size) in Saddle has arrived and I love it.
It's smaller than the measurements on ILD. I measure it at only 10.5" long and 5.5" deep.
I'm guessing their measurements were at the top of the bag, not the base. At the top of the bag, it's 13" across the opening. Dooney measures other collections across the base of the bag. They used to have a diagram
on the site to show where they took their 'standard' measurements.

The medium Woven Shopper is a nice size for a handbag. I'm going to order the
black one in the large size, since I want the extra room. I already have a large
saddle color Alto tote in another style, so I didn't want to duplicate that when I
ordered the Woven Shopper in saddle.

Comparing the prices of the 3 sizes of the Alto Woven Shopper.... the medium is
the best value....the biggest discount and the lowest price.

One note, the center zip pocket is not attached to the bottom of the handbag,
or down the sides.
It connects to the ends of the bag at the top only and floats free. This isn't
an issue for me, but it will annoy some.

It looks beautiful! I love the saddle color. I was looking at this bag wondering & hoping there was lining inside. 😅

The Ramona is on clearance and it’s caught my eye in the saddle color.

I’ve rediscovered Dooney just recently after two decades, and I cannot get enough! I just recently picked up two florentine satchels from this sale - I somehow (luckily!) snagged a Fuschia and also bought the Elephant. When the these arrived, I noticed a few details that weren’t the same.
  • First of all and most obviously, the size. The Elephant bag was 12” in length, whereas the Fuschia was 13” long.
  • The bottom panel. Elephant had a completely different bottom panel. The feet were placed much wider apart and they didn’t have the leather strips underneath the feet. (Seemed cheaper imo? This is ultimately why I sent this one back).
  • The tags inside. Elephant was missing the red/white D&B tag and only had the Made in Mexico tag inside. Fuschia had both tags, but made in Vietnam.
What gives? I’m an newbie again lol. Can anyone explain why the differences?

I can't explain the differences in design between your handbag. Over the years, Dooney has altered the design of the Florentine satchel. Originally, the bottom had a center seam
and no rectangular panel across the entire base. So, older inventory took a while to
move out and an order could be either design.

As for size, they re-sized the Florentine satchels a while ago. It was very confusing labeling originally, and even more confusing when they changed it.... both in the
naming and apparently adjusting the size. The former small is now just the satchel
(or the regular size) and the former medium is now the large (it always was really big).
It's hard to know if the measurements are really different or if they are measuring
the bags differently (or even accurately).

QVC used to have the most accurate measurements for Dooney bags they sold. But their measurement standards were
sometimes different than Dooneys and took years to be aligned. And now, I'm getting
some bags from Dooney that seem to be measured differently than Dooney used
to measure them . And Dooney no longer has the measurement guide on their website.
It can make a big difference if you measure a bag across the base or the top, for example.
And if it's a slouchy shape, how you determined the length or depth can also be different.
I'm going to guess that the 13" bag was made before they changed the specs of the
small or regular size satchel. Your other bag was probably created under the new specs.

As for the leather thickness, that can vary from bag to bag, no matter where they are
manufactured. We don't know if it's intentional.... to lighten the bag (at customer
request) or to cut costs... or if it's just the variability of a natural product.

Glad you snagged the Fuchshia. It's a beautiful color and is often hard to find.
I've learned that unique colors must be purchased when you see them. The more
standard colors like black, natural, elephant, and red seem to be core colors that
are produced every year. But the 'fashion' or in my mind, more interesting colors
come and go. Sometimes never to reappear. So don't be lulled into thinking you can
always get that beautiful color.... if you see it, and love it, and it makes sense
to buy it.... go for it and enjoy.

Oh no, I did it again. After 6 months and only 3 new handbags
(a veritable no buy for me), I fell off the wagon again last night.
I think late evening is the time of day that my self control has
already retired for the night and my buy it impulses are
strongest.

On ILD, using the SAVEBIG
sale, I purchase the Plumes Drawstring in black.
Yes, I already have it in blue, but.... I had a $20 coupon
that worked on top of the sale so... into my cart it went.
Then I saw the Ivy Gretta D/S. Only $109. Well,
I've wanted to add an Ivy Gretta to my collection for
quite a while. So it joined the Plumes on it's way home to me.
There were also some other Gretta styles in Ivy at $109,
but I wanted the larger capacity of the D/S.

I wasn't done yet.... Dooney has brought back the traditional
cosmetic case in a number of prints. Around $45 at the sale price.
I much prefer the cosmetic cases because they have a wider base
and hold so much more than the pouches. 4 new cosmetic cases
are now waiting to join my collection.... the Art Deco, in both the
black and the white, (the colors look different)🙄🙄🙄
the Plumes, in red, and the Hydrangea in blue.
Keeping the order to 4 required some self control 🤣🤣🤣🤣
as I also wanted a Tartan and the Hydrangea in black (which was advanced
order, so I passed on it). And if they had had the cosmetic cases
in pebbled leather, I would have ordered a few more.

Anyone else indulging?

My items have arrived and they are all winners.
I did want to mention that the Gretta Drawstring does NOT have a zip pocket inside.
I was surprised. It's not a reason for me to return the bag,
but I do use the inside zip pocket in all my Dooneys and I will miss it.
That pocket is where I secure my credit card case and car keys.
I'll have to add a wristlet for those items when I use the handbag.

The Gretta Drawstring bag is lovely and I've wanted an Ivy Gretta print
for several years. Just couldn't pass up the sale price of $110.
The strap is a wide thick and well finished
piece of leather. It doesn't have the buckle details of the Plumes strap,
but it is a high end strap and can be removed and used on other handbags.

The black Plumes Drawstring has different prominent colors than the blue one.
And the black is trimmed in black leather while the blue is trimmed in brown.
Of course I didn't need both, but I really do love the Plumes print so I'm
keeping the black one too.
